Supporting The Rail Forum’s #MayMake 2026 Campaign

Throughout May, the Rail Forum’s #MayMake campaign is shining a spotlight on the businesses, people and engineering expertise helping support the UK rail industry.

The campaign encourages businesses across the rail sector to share what they manufacture, where it’s made, and the people behind it. It’s also a good opportunity to highlight the importance of UK manufacturing and the role it continues to play across the rail industry.

As a member of the Rail Forum, RS Clare is proud to support the campaign and get involved with other businesses across the sector.

We’ve been manufacturing for more than 275 years and still manufacture in Liverpool today. Over the years, we’ve continued investing in our people, facilities and engineering expertise while supporting industries that depend on reliable products and long-term supply partnerships.

Supporting UK manufacturing remains important to us. It helps strengthen supply chains, supports skilled jobs and ensures specialist engineering knowledge stays within the industry for the long term.

That commitment also goes beyond manufacturing itself. Alongside continued investment in our Liverpool operations, we also support local charities, education initiatives and community organisations across the region.

Within rail, we’ve supported the sector for more than 30 years through the development of friction management and rail lubrication solutions used across networks in the UK and internationally. With increasing passenger numbers, higher service frequencies and heavier axle loads placing greater demands on infrastructure, friction management continues to play an important role in improving reliability, reducing wear and supporting long-term network performance.

Over that time, the rail industry has changed significantly. There’s now far greater focus on sustainability, reliability, performance and closer collaboration across the supply chain than there was even 10 or 15 years ago.

That includes reducing environmental impact, improving operational efficiency and developing more sustainable approaches across both manufacturing and rail operations.

Nigel Attwood, Rail Divisional Manager, commented, “Reliable supply chains continue to play a major role across rail infrastructure and operations. We continue to work closely with suppliers and customers alike to help maintain robust supply partnerships while continuing to invest in UK manufacturing capability and long-term engineering support.

As the future of UK rail continues to bring track and train closer together, there is also growing demand for more integrated approaches across the industry. Rail suppliers are increasingly being asked to provide more than standalone products, with a greater focus on integrated solutions that support long-term network performance and reliability.”

For us, this includes the continued development of our integrated WRI friction management offering, bringing together equipment, consumables and engineering expertise to support the changing needs of modern rail networks.

Campaigns like #MayMake are important because they help shine a light on the companies, people and engineering expertise supporting the rail industry across the UK. They also help keep the conversation around UK manufacturing moving in the right direction.

We’re proud to be supporting the campaign throughout May alongside other Rail Forum members and helping highlight the manufacturing expertise that continues to exist across the UK rail sector.
