High Performance Marine Lubricants

World-class range of innovative, enviromentally acceptable marine greases.

Experts in marine lubrication

Marine equipment is subjected to an extreme environment where the highly corrosive salty atmosphere can be compounded by severe variations in temperature. Moving parts can often be in the splash-zone and operating with heavy loading. Lubricants used in such conditions need to be designed to protect equipment with all these factors in mind. Furthermore, fleet and vessel operators and owners need to ensure compliance with the marine industry’s evolving environmental regulations.

RS Clare now offers a world-class range of innovative greases, which are classed as Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants. The BioMarine range is VGP (Vessel General Permit) compliant and carries the European Ecolabel, meaning there is minimal impact on the sensitive marine environment, but without compromising performance.

VGP BioMarine Grease

The VGP BioMarine Grease Range was developed with a unique grease thickener technology to create unparalleled levels of performance and stability. The inherent environmental properties of our VGP BioMarine range exceeds the EPA’s requirements meaning they are VGP Compliant.

Speciality Marine Greases

Our full range of Speciality Marine Greases offers enhanced protection in tough marine conditions. This gives ship owners and offshore operators lifetime cost savings, in terms of reduced equipment downtime, longer re-lubrication intervals and trouble-free operation.

The VGP BioMarine range features up to 90% renewable content

Includes multi-purpose, extreme pressure and sprayable greases with good inherent EP properties and excellent inherent anti-wear. It is also EPA, VGP and Ecolabel compliant.

The Vessel General Permit Regulation (VGP)

The Vessel General Permit Regulation 2013 mandates the use of an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) for many applications, primarily where discharge to or contact with seawater is likely. The EPA defines an EAL as not being sheen forming; containing at least 75% readily biodegradable components, with the remainder being non bio-accumulative; and meeting aquatic toxicity EC50 levels of at least 1000mg/l, tested against algae, arthropods and fish.  The BioMarine grease formulations have been assessed according to test methods OECD301B, OECD201, OECD202 and OECD203, and we therefore certify that they are EALs.

Our range of marine greases are designed to protect equipment used in marine applications that are subject to challenging operating conditions where there is a greater risk of corrosion from salt water and wear through varying temperatures.

The propeller, attached to the ship's stern, is partially submerged, and the clear blue water provides a dynamic backdrop with rippling light patterns. This scene highlights the importance of using quality marine lubricants.
