The Midland Metro is alight-rail/tramline in the county of the West Midlands, England with a total track length of 21km. The line operates on streets in urban areas, and reopened conventional rail tracks that link the towns and cities. The owners are Transport for West Midlands with operation by National Express Midland Metro, a subsidiary of National Express.
The Midland Metro has 21 Spanish built CAF Urbo3 trams using Bijur Delimon On board spray equipment.
The West Midlands Metro had ongoing issues with noise complaints, particularly where the track ran close to urban area’s like Birmingham’s City Centre.
The issue was a priority for the Track Maintenance Manager and having trialled a range of alternative wheel flange greases with little success, there was a real need for an effective lubricant that would deliver consistent performance.
The West Midland Metro’s fleet of CAF Urbo3 trams use Bijur Delimon onboard spray equipment which could have presented a challenge, however our EcoCurve Onboard lubricant has approval from Bijur Delimon for use with their equipment.
We recommended that a trial be initiated on the most troublesome portion of track to best demonstrate our EcoCurve Onboard lubricant’s performance capabilities.
The trial was deemed successful with an immediate reduction in noise complaints and the associated environmental benefits of EcoCurve Onboard were a welcome part of the solution. After the initial trial on Tram No 36, all 21 trams within the West Midlands Metro fleet are now using RS Clare EcoCurve Onboard spray lubricant.
