For lubricants and greases in the marine industry, such as wire rope lubricants, the key environmental measure is impact on aquatic life – for obvious reasons. These products will eventually leach into the water, which means they must not harm the organisms living there.
The environmental impact of marine lubricants and greases is governed by the Vessel General Permit (VGP) Regulation 2013, which mandates the use of an Environmentally Acceptable Lubricant (EAL) for many marine applications.
The EcoLabel guarantees that marine lubricants are VGP and EAL compliant. These lubricants have a limited impact on the aquatic environment, contain a restricted quantity of hazardous substances, and perform as well as or better than alternative conventional products on the market.
How can you ensure your lubricants meet, or succeed, these standards? One solution is to use lubricants from our ClareGuard Build Lubricant range. These lubricants have been proven to perform in the toughest marine environments – and are non-hazardous and non-toxic to aquatic life.
Our ClareGuard Build range includes multi-purpose, extreme pressure (EP) and sprayable greases, all designed to provide:
- Measurably higher stability across a wide temperature range versus traditional greases, eliminating the need to change grease grades as conditions change
- 75% to >90% renewable content, reducing carbon footprint and increasing sustainability
- No potentially eco-toxic additives that might leach out over time and concentrate in the environment
- Zero microplastics (PTFE Free)
- Good inherent EP – there is no risk of incompatibilities and no compromise between EP and other performance properties
- Excellent inherent anti-wear properties
