RS Clare team up with The Mersey Forest to plant trees in Liverpool

RS Clare employees recently joined forces with The Mersey Forest and Friends of Princes Park to plant trees at Princes Park, Liverpool. The initiative, part of RS Clare’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the local community and improving the environment. RS Clare has sponsored 29 trees to the project, with colleagues helping to plant some of them during an afternoon session.

About The Mersey Forest

The Mersey Forest is a long-standing community forest initiative covering Cheshire and Merseyside. Since its establishment in the early 1990s, the organisation has planted over 10 million trees, creating greener spaces for people, wildlife, and climate resilience. By working with local communities, businesses, and landowners, The Mersey Forest aims to integrate trees and woodlands into urban and rural landscapes. Princes Park: A historic green space

Opened to the public in 1843 and finished in the mid-1850s, Princes Park was an innovative example of urban green space. Designed by Joseph Paxton, a prominent figure in 19th-century landscape architecture, the park combined private gardens, public pathways, a lake, a boathouse, and open greens. Its design was more like grand country estates than typical urban parks of that era. Passing into public ownership in 1918, Princes Park became a significant milestone in making green spaces accessible to everyone and played an important part in Liverpool’s urban development.

Today, the Friends of Princes Park, a volunteer-led group, is dedicated to the park’s conservation and care. Their work focuses on maintaining and improving the park for the enjoyment of all visitors, involving the local community in its upkeep, and raising awareness of its historic significance. This ongoing stewardship ensures that Princes Park remains a cherished green space for future generations. To learn more about their efforts, visit the the Friends of Princes Park website.

An afternoon of tree planting

The tree-planting session saw RS Clare colleagues working together to prepare the site and plant some of the trees they sponsored. The process involved placing stakes, positioning the young trees, and covering them with soil. Protective cages were then installed around the trees to support their growth and stability. The activity not only contributed positively to the local environment but also provided an opportunity for the team to engage with the Friends of Princes Park and the local community.

A positive impact

The planting of trees at Princes Park is a small but significant step towards a greener Liverpool. By working with The Mersey Forest, RS Clare has contributed to an initiative that benefits both the local community and the wider environment.
