Bimagrip - Antiskid Surfacing

When surface skidding, slipping or loss of traction are a threat to safety and performance, Bimagrip provides a durable and highly effective solution. Specially developed for its anti-skid properties, this hugely versatile application delivers unrivalled friction and grip across a wide range of substrates, reducing stopping distance by 30%.

Whether it’s on steel, concrete, asphalt or timber, Bimagrip is easy to lay, fast-setting and incredibly long lasting. Treated areas can be opened to traffic within two hours of application, minimising downtime and protecting underlying assets.

Whilst this versatile treatment is increasingly specified as part of new-builds, it can just as easily be used to upgrade existing surfaces. Which is why many RoRo vessels and Pure Car/Truck Carriers choose to apply Bimagrip on ramps over traditional square bar metal anti-skid systems.

Time and again experience has shown that even after decades of use, Bimagrip still performs at its best, without any maintenance required.  Whereas lower cost alternatives require frequent re-applications, Bimagrip keeps going - making it a proven cost-effective solution.

What is the coverage area of one kit and what is the cost per square meter?

Coverage rates depend on the surface type and aggregate chosen. Cost varies depending on the size of the project and the substrate to be coated. Please fill out an enquiry form online and one of our technical sales engineers will contact you within 1 working day to discuss your requirements.

Bimagrip should be considered one-time application – offering huge lifetime cost-savings when compared to alternative systems.

What types of traffic can Bimagrip withstand?

All rubber-treaded pneumatic and non-pneumatic motorcycles, cars, trucks, buses, multi-wheeled and very heavy vehicles and trailers are suitable. Where steel-tracked vehicles are used damage to the aggregate will occur and suitable materials such as rubber mats, mooring ropes or wooden planks must be used for protection of the Bimagrip surface.

How soon can the surface be open to traffic after application?

BIMAGRIP is a very fast cure system, treated areas may be reopened to traffic just 2 hours following application, in ambient temperatures of 20°C. This enables work to be carried out at night, thus minimising inconvenience and cost.

Do I need to apply a top coat?

Top coats are optional and are used for ease of cleaning and where it is necessary to keep the aggregate completely bound. These are usually clear or coloured epoxy or polyurethane paints.

What is the bond strength of Bimagrip?

The bond strength of Bimagrip to primed steel is tested in accordance with British Standard BS 33900 part E10. The strength of the Bimagrip bond will always be to that of the substrate or the cohesive strength of Bimagrip.

What quality assurance does Bimagrip come with?

Bimagrip is manufactured to ISO9001:2008

What is the system thickness?

A set system thickness can be between 3mm and 7mm depending on aggregate selection.

Is Bimagrip chemically resistant?

The Bimagrip system is fully impervious to water, oil, fuel and de-icing salts. This means the substrate is fully encapsulated and protected from corrosion, therefore it extends the service life of the substrate itself.

What is the Bimagrip System comprised of?

Bimagrip is formulated for performance. It is comprised of a polyurethane primer, a flexible fast-cure polyurethane adhesive compound and a specially selected durable aggregate.

What are the different grades and how do I select between them?

There are two main grades. Bimagrip LS is used where thicker films are required for larger aggregates, non-flat areas during application and heavily trafficked areas. Bimagrip HD is for less heavily trafficked areas, such as pedestrian bridges, where smaller sized aggregate is required and level areas during application.

Is Bimagrip certified fire resistant?

Bimagrip is tested and approved in accordance with IMO Resolution MSC 61(67): Annex 1, Part 5 - Surface Flammability & Part 2 Smoke and Toxicity.

What is the design criteria of the aggregates? Are any tests carried out?

ABRASION RESISTANCE (ABV)
The abrasion value of the aggregates to British Standard 812 1975.

ANTI-SKID RESISTANCE (SRV)
Anti-skid and slip resistance for vehicle and pedestrian traffic as measured by the portable SRT in BS 3262; part 1.

RS CLARE FRIABILITY
Friability of all aggregates from RS Clare is tested using a method based upon the Micro Duval test (for larger aggregates - 13mm to 19mm). This ensures the quality of aggregate materials used in Bimagrip systems that are less than 6mm are resistant to breaking up during service.
