R S Clare who were the only Merseyside company to receive a Queen’s Award for Enterprise – for International Trade in 2011 were nominated for three Awards at the 10th EN North West Entrepreneurs Awards Dinner held at The Mere Golf and Country Club on 27th October – and won two more awards.
In its 264th year the judges, who included Dragon’s Den newcomer Hilary Devey , Joe Morris of £700m Home Bargains and Gerald Ratner, voted the Specialist Lubricants Manufacturer
‘Family Business of the Year’ and ‘Manufacturer of the Year’
“The company’s trophy cabinet is getting overcrowded now, but it simply reflects the extraordinary and sustained growth of a company which has changed fundamentally ten times over the centuries” said Chairman Ian Meadows.
“I was out in Abu Dhabi a fortnight ago where a colleague was presenting a Technical Paper at a prestigious Well Integrity conference, and it was abundantly clear that we have an excellent reputation for reducing maintenance costs and improving safety controls in the Upstream Oil & Gas Industry throughout the Middle East.
Mr Meadows continued “Significant new business is being established throughout the Gulf, in Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan and in Iraq. But our business is now global and next week colleagues will be in North America.
Noel Patterson Sales Director will represent the company as a Regional Finalist in the National HSBC Business Thinking competition in New York before going on to Alaska and Houston Texas, the epicentre of the Oil Industry”.
As the company heads toward its 265th Anniversary the new Museum of Liverpool is about to mount a display about the company including The Ballymenagh Trophy, a magnificent sterling silver depiction of ‘Science overcoming the dust nuisance’ which was awarded to Clare in 1907 for ‘TARCO’ the UK’s then most successful surface dressing for roads.
“We’ve made a bit of a habit of winning awards over the past century, but what really matters is the team who are qualified, innovative, customer focused and are rapidly becoming stars!
I’m very proud of them all” said the Chairman.
