PRESS RELEASE
R
S Clare hosts European Eco Labelling Working Group
On
5th and 6th March 2009, R S Clare
are hosting the penultimate meeting of a multi industry
European wide initiative to increase the uptake in Eco
Labelling by industries across the board.
Governments
throughout the EU are disturbed by the lack of take up by
industry since Eco Labelling started 10 years ago. Environmentally
friendly products are often more expensive than conventional
products although though they are designed to cause less harm to
the environment.
RS
Clare are pleased to welcome 36 delegates to Liverpool from
across a broad range of industries throughout the EU,
at this the penultimate session of a 3 Year Programme.
Participants have for example considered ways to reduce costs in
processing vegetable oils through ‘softer refining’.
Later
this year the findings will be published, which the Group
believe will achieve the object to encourage more use of Eco
Labelling – which will see an
uplift in the development of environmentally friendly products.
For
CLARE, one example which is already in use is a range of
biodegradable greases for the lubrication of curved rails where
the company enjoys a dominant market share with Network Rail. An
Eco Label will better enable the company to penetrate markets
across the EU, and take advantage of the current exchange rate
advantage which exists for sterling.
Ian
Meadows, Chairman of R S Clare said
“ We are fortunate that the lubrication of rails is a Health
& Safety issue, and so it’s relatively recession proof,
but tieing an internationally accepted Eco Label to this
biodegradable range is an added benefit. It’s a double
whammy”.
“It
has been a privilege to have been a member of the EU Working
Party. We have made useful contacts, are achieving a worthwhile
result, and are delighted to host this session in
Liverpool
, a truly international city”.
